STUARTS DRAFT, Va. (WHSV) -- A local man is warning neighbors in the Valley about a scam that claims you have won a sweepstakes.

Gary Cummings received a call telling him he won the Liberty Sweeps Takes, but owed taxes on it.

He was given a claim number and also told to go to a website, a fake version of the government accountability organization's real website, GAO.gov.

The fake site looks very similar to GAO.gov.

Cummings said the scammer turned up the pressure when he found out Cummings is a veteran.

"That, 'OK, here's a vet who needs money.' And I really took great exception to that. Because I respect vets. I did my service. I don't want a veteran to get ripped off of what few savings he or she actually has," said Cummings.

Cummings says he's talked to the real GAO and they told him they do not do anything like that.
