HARRISONBURG, Va. -- Thousands made their way downtown last night for First Night 2013. A WHSV reporter checked in with the board of directors of Downtown Renaissance to see how the event turned out.
Terry Burkhalter, the executive director of Downtown Renaissance, lacked a little sleep after Monday night's festivities, and he said he was extremely pleased with the event. He said the turn out was just a little smaller than what it was last year, but even then, about 3,000 people attended.
Burkhalter said it was amazing how the community came together to put on such a great activity for Valley families.
"It's the people, volunteers who come out. A hundred or more people were helping us put this together. So the board of directors may work behind the scenes preparing but it's the volunteers the evening of that help make the evening successful," said Burkhalter.
Burkhalter said the event went off without a flaw and everyone had a great time.
