ALBEMARLE COUNTY -- Virginia Department of Transportation workers are beginning the work to remove unstable soil on Afton Mountain.

This will affect drivers heading to and from Albemarle County.

About four times per day, traffic will be restricted in both directions for 30 to 45 minutes. VDOT officials warn drivers could experience major delays and lots of congestion.

The right lane of the westbound side of the road will be closed from mile marker 103 to 100 during the soil removal.

Drivers can use Route 250 to avoid the congestion.

The restrictions will happen until Thursday.
