HARRISONBURG -- On Sunday a screening of the HBO documentary "The Big Picture: Rethinking Dyslexia" was held in Harrisonburg to help decode myths about dyslexia.
Jill McGlaughlin organized the screening. Both of her kids have dyslexia. She said she wants to help people understand the struggles people with dyslexia have.
"They are having to pull from every aspect of the brain to try to figure out how to read, and often times will be struggling behind others in reading, just trying to catch up," she said. "But they are very bright, and it's not a learning disability, it's just a learning difference."
According to the International Dyslexia Association, as many as 15 to 20 percent of people might have some symptoms of dyslexia.
