HARRISONBURG, Va -- Eastern Mennonite University has a center for justice and peace-building and they say social media, like Facebook and Twitter, can fuel protests.
These tools can also be used for good, like helping unite certain causes.
One professor said social media can mean more freedoms, but people should be careful with how they use it.
“It enables greater responsibility at the same time, so in a way, I think that this sort of self-restraint of trying to think before you post about the consequences that will be enabled by it is something we should pay attention to,” said EMU Peace-building Professor Dr. Catherine Barnes.
Barnes said social media is often a smaller part of a larger conflict.
