VERONA, Va. (WHSV) -- Local elected officials stopped by the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank in Verona to help the hungry Tuesday.

Politicians statewide took part in Elected Officials Volunteer Day part of Hunger Action Month.

Delegate Ben Cline was at the food bank Tuesday afternoon helping stuff food boxes for people in need.

Delegate Steve Landes also volunteered earlier in the day.

Cline said hunger is a persistent problem that requires all of our help to fight.

"Hunger is something that is a persistent enemy, and we have to be aggressive in combating it here in our community by coming together through your church or through your community center. Coming together to work to combat hunger in our community is something we should all be a part of," said Cline.

You can help in the fight against hunger by helping us "Stuff a Truck" with food that will help feed 35,000 hungry neighbors here in the valley.

That will be Friday, September 13th, at Martin's in Staunton, Waynesboro, Harrisonburg, Front Royal and Winchester.
