ELKTON, Va. (WHSV) -- This month, three cars were stolen in Elkton, which police say is the most they've seen all year.

Leaders with Elkton police say these crimes are unusual for such a small town.

Kat Shifflett says she left her car unattended for a few minutes before it was stolen. She stopped at the McDonald's in town to use the restroom.

Although her car was off, she did leave the keys in the ignition.

She was able to find her car later that night because of a tracking device built in the car.

Shifflett says she wouldn't have thought in a million years this could happen to her.

"I was like I know I parked my car here. I was like I know I parked my car here and it was just gone. Just gone. I don't know how to explain it. I really don't," said Shifflett.

She said when she got her car back everything inside was gone.

Unfortunately police have no suspects at this point, but the case remains under investigation.

Police recommend you keep your car locked at all times and don't leave valuables inside it.
