Employers Asking for Future Employees Facebook Password

Posted: Tue 6:33 PM, Mar 20, 2012

In recent years, job seekers have made their profiles more private to keep employers from seeing their personal information, but some employers are now asking applicants to give them their Facebook usernames and passwords to get around these privacy settings.

Charles Cain is looking for a job in the Valley, and he said this crosses the line.

"I think it's a little inappropriate because they shouldn't be able to know everything. I don't want them reading my messages, but at they same time they can read about me and look at my pictures and see what type of person I am," said Cain.

Laws have been proposed in Illinois and Maryland to keep employers from asking applicants for their Facebook user names and passwords.
