BRIDGEWATER, Va. (WHSV) -- You could almost say Evan Hanifee is Turner Ashby High School's knight in shining armor.
He's TA's starting quarterback and a star on the baseball diamond, but most of all, Evan is a leader.
"He demonstrates everything we would ever want an athlete to do when it comes to dealing with adversity. He understands that in sports and in life that there's going to be failures and there's going to be tough times, and it's those that deal with those situations the best that ultimately have the most success," said Sean Hanifee, Evan's baseball coach.
"I'm not one of those vocal leaders, really. Not a guy that's gonna yell at people or stuff like that. I just try to lead by example and do what I'm supposed to do, and hopefully the guys will follow behind me," said Evan.
And the Knights have followed.
Evan is an All-Region quarterback on the gridiron and a high school All-American on the baseball diamond, where he won the Valley District Triple Crown last season.
His stats in the classroom impress too, to the tune of a 3.8 GPA.
"I never wanted to be mediocre at anything. I figured, might as well go above and beyond and be a great student along with being a great athlete. The biggest thing is taking pride in what I do," said Evan.
"His future and his life is out there for whatever he wants. Because academically he's there if he wants to go further on, and also his skills in sports is there where he can easily be picked up for a scholarship," said Robert Bush, Evan's geology teacher.
"I'll be playing baseball at George Mason University, and I'll be studying criminology," said Evan.
