PAGE COUNTY, Va. (WHSV) -- Page County High School's Evan Knowles is a dedicated three-sport athlete, but athletics are not the only things on his mind.
He has his sights on his grades and his future.
"Evan? Evan is almost like a right arm for us as a staff," said Mark Comer, Evan's cross country coach.
Helpful, hardworking and difficult to replace are all words used to describe Evan, a senior cross-country runner.
"He ran as hard as he could everyday, every drill that we did, every mile we did, he was always leading the pack," said Comer.
Evan led the cross country team by example and wanted everyone to push and do their best.
"It's always good to see other people do good as well and see them achieve their goals. Even though it might not be going to regionals or states but its good to see them reach a new personal best time," said Evan.
He sets goals in athletics as well as in the classroom and his 4.2 GPA shows he accomplishes what he puts his mind to.
"He's just one of those top students that you want in your classroom. He never gives up. He continues and continues to try and improve himself. Even in the classroom if he doesn't get something he continues to ask," said Sheila McKay, Evan's computer information teacher.
Evan will continue to improve himself as he plans to take classes at Bridgewater College next year in order to be a physical therapist.
He knows his future relies on the work he does now.
"At the end of meets, in cross country, it gets really hard because you're really tired and all and the same thing for academics, you're at the end of the semester, you've got your exams coming up. All that preparation can really pay itself off when you end up doing good at the meet or on your test," said Evan.
