FARMVILLE, Va. (AP) -- A former Farmville police officer faces attempted capital murder charges following a standoff.

T.J. Long of Prince Edward County is being held at the Piedmont Regional Jail.

Police tell media outlets that the standoff occurred Saturday evening on farmland in the Abilene area of Prince Edward County.

Long is accused of shooting at county deputies and a Virginia State Police trooper as they approached his truck. The officers weren't injured. Long surrendered following a standoff.

Authorities also are investigating an arson fire at a house that occurred shortly before the standoff. Police say the fire and the shooting stemmed from a domestic incident.
