STAUNTON,Va. (WHSV) -- We've all seen those graphic anti-smoking ads and commercials on TV, but how effective are they?
Many of the comments on the Center for Disease Control's Facebook page are approving the ads. They say the ads hit close to home and they hope people stop smoking before its too late.
Keri Jones, the coordinator of the SAW Coalition said the ads give a different perspective on what could happen to smokers.
"It sends out a personal message. I think if people are taking the time to read those messages and look at the pictures and really understand the battles that these people have gone through, then I think it'll be effective. I certainly hope that they'll continue them," said Jones.
Jones says that 3,800 youth start smoking everyday so if these ads stop just one or two people from starting then they are worth it.
