Exceptions for Enrolling in Health Care Before November Deadline

STAUNTON, Va. (WHSV) -- The Health Care website may say open enrollment is closed for 2014; however, you can still receive insurance through several loopholes.

One way is if you have a life changing event, such as a divorce, new baby, or death in the family.

Certified application counselors with the Valley Community Services Board said the biggest impact we could see in our community, is people who have lost their job or lose their insurance through their employer.

Caroline Deberry said the changing deadline is confusing.

"I just started my own business and that is something I had to try to find out was, how it is going to affect me and other people I have talked to who are afraid they will lose their jobs. It is actually pretty scary for people," said Deberry.

The Valley Community Services Board said in the last 24 hours, many people have called to get help with their application, they started before Monday's deadline.
