Donating to the Stalbird Family
Drop off locations:
Edinburg, Va. (WHSV) The Stalbird family is thankful for all the help they've received, a day after a fire destroyed their home. They've lived in it for more than 20 years.
"Thursday is the day I will remember the rest of my life. It was a nightmare for me. I mean, you lose your home and all your possessions," said Mark Stalbird, who lived with his two daughters and his wife.
He says close to $400,000 worth of items were loss, but what he misses the most is his dog Rio.
Since the fire, the family says they've received more than $10,000 and the community setup several drop off locations for donations.
"Since that time, the social media has taken this thing and its grown into a huge monster really," said Bill Rice, who is using social media to help the Stalbird family receive donations.
"You don't realize how many friends you have until you go through a tragedy and I was telling a friend of mine, just a little bit ago. I have more clothes now than I had before the fire," said Mark Stalbird.
"Right now they need the basic necessities, toiletries, food, towels," said Matt Burgwald who works with Edinburg Trucks, which is one of the drop off locations.
"Thank you very, very much and may God bless you for it," said Mark Stalbird.
The family plans to rebuild their home eventually.
