HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- Due to a decision by the State Board of Elections on Wednesday, you can now use an expired ID to vote in November.
According to the law, specified photo IDs will be valid whether they're current or have been expired for less than a year.
Although there was a lot of political attention on this issue, local registrars said this will barely impact your voting experience in November.
Election officers in both Harrisonburg and Rockingham County mentioned a concern about how the change affects senior citizen voters.
One election officer said that some senior citizens may not drive anymore and they may have an expired drivers license as a result; however, the voter ID changes are not expected to have any big impact here locally.
"Here in Rockingham County.I don't think we have ever had anyone try and use an invalid ID to vote. Any place we have been they're like 'Why haven't we been doing this? What is the big deal?' Those are the questions we're hearing from local voters," Susan Threewitts with the Rockingham County Electoral Board.
