False Alarms Trigger a Public Safety Hazard in the Valley

HARRISONBURG, Va (WHSV)-- The city council discussed the issue of false alarms---defined as when there is user error on a building alarm system or when the alarm malfunctions---it has become a public safety concern.

In the past three years alone, 99 percent of the alarms that go off have been due to a 'false alarm' that was triggered.

There have been repeat offenders---businesses or homes----that have caused false alarms to activate.

The Harrisonburg Police Department is requesting that local homes and businesses keep their alarm systems updated in an effort to help the city prevent false alarms.
