Family Escapes Early Morning Fire

MOUNT JACKSON (WHSV)-- A family of three and dogs were able to escape an early morning fire at 269 Orkney Drive, according to the Shenandoah County Dept. of Fire and Rescue.

The fire started as a chimney fire and spread to the walls of the house, according to fire and rescue. The fire is now under control.

One fire fighter suffered a minor injury, but was not taken to the hospital.

A person inside the house woke up to smell smoke. The house did not have smoke detectors, according to fire and rescue.

The Red Cross is now being called in to assist.
