ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. -- With thousands of people dealing with no power, one family in Rockingham county is talking about how they're handling it all.

Paul Hensley said he lost power at 6 a.m. Wednesday and he has yet to get it back as of 10 a.m. Thursday.

Hensley owns a farm off Spotswood Trail in McGaheysville, and said he is well prepared with food and a wood stove.

Hensley owns poultry houses on his farm and said that if he had chickens around now, he'd be running back and forth trying to keep them warm.

"House is toasty and of course that's my source of cooking and that's worked out real well and the only drawback is I got poultry houses and we laid out this week. But ,if not I'd have had to run the generator since Wednesday morning at six. So yes, it worked out pretty good that we didn't have them right now," Hensley said.

His daughter, Lauren Shifflett, who is a teacher, actually traveled from Mount Crawford to make use of the heat.

Shifflett has been without power since 1 a.m. on Wednesday.

"Yeah I needed to get out I wanted to test the car try to get down to the lane because we live in a similar area like this is coming up a gravel lane and I was afraid of getting out. I got out, I felt good once we got out and came down here to hang out with dad," Shifflett said.

They were pretty good natured about the whole thing and planned to head into Harrisonburg on an outing.
