"Fast for Families" Stops in Harrisonburg

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- "Fast for Families," a national bus tour, made a stop in the Valley on Monday.

The group has traveled across the county, fasting, working to bring about immigration reform.

Monday afternoon, they held a press conference outside Congressman Bob Goodlatte's Harrisonburg office. During it, they claimed the immigration system is broken and tearing families apart. They hope Goodlatte and other congressmen across country will hear what they have to say.

Kamilo Ribera, who lives in Harrisonburg, said this issue is huge, especially in the Valley.

"Harrisonburg and Rockingham County have a lot of immigrant people and we would like for everyone to be given an opportunity like me. When I came from Salvador I didn't have papers, so now I'm a citizen and I work in a good place," said Ribera.

Fast for Families is having a potluck meal to bring the community together at 5:30 p.m. at Community Mennonite Church.
