As of March 27, WHSV will no longer be available through Comcast to Page County customers.
Comcast informed WHSV, as well as their customers of their plans to “cease out-of-market carriage” of WHSV.
The Harrisonburg market, as defined by Nielsen, the dominant TV ratings company, includes Rockingham, Augusta and Pendleton counties.
This is not Comcast’s fault, nor is it WHSV's fault.
Comcast first cleaned up its duplication in our DMA and is now doing the same thing in the Washington, D.C. DMA.
While you may no longer receive WHSV as part of your cable package, it can be picked up free over the air in many areas of Page County.
We tested the over-the-air signal strength at five locations in Page County using an antenna at the FCC recommended 30-foot height.
In Shenandoah, at an elevation of 1018 feet, the signal strength was 69.0 dBu.
In Pine Grove, at an elevation of 1347 feet, the signal strength was 49.5 dBu.
In Stoneyman, at an elevation of 1070 feet, the signal strength was 51.4 dBu.
In Luray, at an elevation of 945 feet, the signal strength was 45.9 dBu.
In Rileyville, at an elevation of 738 feet, the signal strength was 64.6 dBu.
Any area with a signal strength above a 41 dBu should be able to pick up our signal; however, due to oddities with terrain shielding, even if you live close to an area with a strong signal, the signal at your own home may not be strong enough.
Any area with a signal strength above 51 dBu should be able to receive our signal using an indoor antenna.
At www.antennaweb.org you can enter your address to get an idea of what stations you can receive using an antenna.
If you need to acquire an antenna to pick up our signal, we have contacted Fox Dish Systems and they do install antennas for people. Its number is 540-743-5042.
The Page Cooperative Farm Bureau in Luray contacted us to let us know that they have ordered indoor antenna for people to purchase. The antennas should be in on April 1. It's number is 540-743-5194.
If you are no longer able to receive our signal, all newscasts are streamed live here on WHSV.com.
You can also sign-up to receive news and weather related text alerts.
