Fire Department Delivering Free Pizzas

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- If you call Cici's Pizza before 8 p.m. on Thursday, you can have a free large one-topping pizza delivered to your home by a firefighter.

It's all part of the free pizza and smoke alarm event put on by the Harrisonburg Fire Department in an effort to promote fire safety.

When your pizza is delivered, they will check your smoke alarm for you to make sure it is in working order. If needed, they will replace batteries or even leave you a new alarm.

The risk of dying in a home fire is cut in half when your home has a working smoke alarm.

"This seems like a lot of money, we're paying for these pizzas to go out and give everybody a working smoke alarm, but in the long run it benefits everybody in the city. It is a cost effective way that we can get the prevention message out, provide a free smoke alarm. If you have a home fire, it's going to cost you thousands and thousands for us to come and put that fire out," said Lt. Wanda Willis with the Harrisonburg Fire Department.

She said the department responds to a couple of house fires every year where people say their fire alarm did not go off.

If you are a city resident you still have time to order your very own free pizza.

Just call Cici's at 540-432-9099 or you can click the link to order online through the Harrisonburg Fire Department.
