ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va.---Several fire departments in the area responded to a house fire on 14000 Mountain Top Lane near Broadway.

Broadway Fire Chief Jeff Lohr said the fire was under control as of 8:30 p.m. on Saturday.

He said when crews arrived to the scene, they saw heavy smoke on the front of the house. He said firefighters had a difficult time getting inside the home and finding the hidden fire.

One person was able to get out in time. However, it is unclear if pets also escaped the flames.

According to Lohr, the fire is still under investigation but he thinks it probably started somewhere at the center of the house.

"It's hard to say right now with the investigation not being done, but we had heavy fire damage in probably 50-percent of the home," said Lohr.

The Rockingham County Fire Marshall's Office will now lead the investigation.

WHSV could not get closer to the scene because the owners of the house told a reporter to leave the property.
