PAGE COUNTY, Va – A fire destroyed the Cubbage's home on Thursday. They were not home at the time it started, but their son was working nearby. By the time he was able to call 911, the house was completely in flames.
Stanley Fire Chief Terry Pettit said the fire may have started from a candle in the living room, but investigators still do not know the exact cause.
For now, the elderly couple is staying with their daughter, Doris Cubbage, who lives down the road from their home.
“My main concern right now is to keep my mom and dad comfortable,” said Dorris. “This was devastating to them. And my disabled brother that lives here with them. They drove in yesterday, and seeing this, it was just so unreal.”
Right now the Red Cross is helping the Cubbage family by bringing them three meals a day and giving them clothes and toiletries.
