Page County Church Damaged in Fire

SHENANDOAH, Va. (WHSV)-- A fire destroyed the Oak Grove United Methodist Church on Wednesday morning.

The church has served the Fleeburg area of Page County for generations and its loss is a severe blow to both the parishioners and the community.

Firefighters said no one was hurt. They responded to the church just after 5 a.m. on Wednesday for the three-alarm fire.

A church leader said about 40 to 50 people regularly attend church there. They will attend mass at a sister church, until this one can be rebuilt.

Firefighters said it started in the middle of the church.

The Page County Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of the ATF, is investigating the cause of the fire.

The on-scene cause and origin investigation is expected to continue through Friday February 7, 2014.
