HARRISONBURG,Va. (WHSV)-- A firestop hangs above the stove and will act as a fire exstinguisher when flames hit it. One apartment manager, Evan Grover, is sold on these devices.
"Every year you have an incident on a stove if not just one, two or three," said Evan Grover.
Grover says firestops are a must at his apartment complex, after a fire occurred in the past.
"I still can remember the smell," said Grover.
That fire caused about $30,000 in damage, and it haunted him. Now, the Mill Apartments have firestops in all of their apartments.
"I think it should be a requirement that these be installed. That's how much I believe in them," said Grover.
Firefighters say in the past two months, two apartment complexes were saved because of firestops; including this apartment.
"They go off and you're talking $35 a canister and it saves an apartment and potentially a life.
Now, Grover, can rest knowing his tenants are protected.
