Harrisonburg -- In our first alert health team keeping you safe.
Folks at Heartland Veterinary Clinic , P.C. tell WHSV they are seeing a lot of dogs with heartworm. They tell us it's rare to see heartworm positive dogs in the clinic, because almost all dogs that get tested are on monthly prevention.
Heartworm in dogs is easy to prevent, but can be costly. The treatment for Heartworm infection, depending on stage and patients overall health, can run $1,000-$1,500. However, preventatives, which also prevent three or four of the common intestinal parasites like Round Worms cost only $5 to $8 per month.
