Augusta Expo Market Helps Ease Food Bank Shortages

AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. (WHSV)-- The Augusta Expo held their monthly market and yard sale on July 5.

People either had to pay a fee of one dollar or donate one canned good item to get into the expo.

Donations go to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank. Many food banks experience shortages during the summer, so this is an important time for donations.

People there said everyone should give back if they're able to because just one food can donation goes a long way.

"That's their dinner, I don't know if they have a car, I don't know if they have a house, but they're happy to see that they have a meal to go home, wherever that is, and eat that and that makes me feel good."

So far, the ongoing event has raised over 6,000 pounds of food this year.
