VERONA, Va. (WHSV) -- A local company donated thousands of dollars to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank Monday.

Joe Harris with the Shirley May Food Group, a local Wendy's franchise, presented a check for $4,000.

The donation will provide 16,000 meals.

Harris said they were inspired to give more after the Greater Augusta Chamber of Commerce members won the Governor's Bowl.

The Blue Ridge Area Food Bank has more of a need this year as it is feeding 118,00 people across Virginia each month.

"We're supported through private donations and when people like Wendy's and the Shirley May Food group step forward and make a gift like they are, it makes all the difference," said Michael McKee, the CEO of the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank.

The Food Bank needs volunteers the most during the spring.
