The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series comes to Richmond this weekend, but before racing's biggest stars take the green flag on Saturday, they'll be driving against a Fort Defiance sophomore on Thursday.
Quin Houff will take part in the Denny Hamlin short track showdown tomorrow at South Boston Speedway. The 16-year-old will race on the same track as Hamlin, as well as his Joe Gibbs Racing teammates, Matt Kenseth and Kyle Busch.
Houff found out he was invited to the race at the beginning of April,
and Thursday will be his first time at the event.
He'll be one of 47 drivers racing at South Boston tomorrow
And while houff has been competing since he was eight, he calls this opportunity one of the biggest moments of his young career.
"I'm pretty calm right now," Houff said, "but it'll probably hit me when I get to the track and see all the big names walking through the track with Kyle Busch, Matt Kenseth and all of them down there doing the same thing I'm doing...I just have to keep my head straight and do what I do. Hopefully it will all show on the track. Just do a good race and do things that need to be done in order to you know just race those guys clean and hard. Show em that I have the talent to do what they do and maybe that can get me somewhere."
