ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. (WHSV) -- The future of Blue Hole, a popular swimming location in Rockingham County, is in question.

Joseph S. Paxton, the Rockingham County Administrator, said the county is putting together a report regarding the complaints about the site. Some of the problems include illegal trespassing, parking and littering.

Vanessa Burshnic, a local college student, said this swimming hole is a popular tradition among students and would hate to see it taken away.

"I think if we aren't going to stay accountable to take care of the land ourselves, then maybe we don't deserve to have it. At the same time, I also think the county can meet students and community members in the middle and put out more trash bins to keep it a place we can still all enjoy," said Burshnic.

However, Paxton said since the 70s, the county has received numerous complaints and has addressed the problems many times. He said they've hired people to pick up the trash and increased patrols on weekends. Now, he said its at a level where the county needs to take more action.

He said, the hope to to have a report to the board on Wednesday, or at the first meeting of July. The board will also reach out to the community for their input.
