Gas Prices On the Rise As July Fourth Holiday Weekend Nears

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV)-- Prices will average about $3.28 per gallon for regular gas, which is up 17 cents from last year.

AAA speculates the troubling events in Iraq as part of the reason the prices of crude oil have gone up.

According to Gas-Buddy, Hawaii pays the most at $4.37 per gallon.

If you're curious how much your journey could cost you, we crunched a few numbers.

According to Mapquest.com, a trip from Harrisonburg to Staunton would cost you $2.64 in gas, one-way using June 30's prices.

A trip up to Washington would set you back $13.87, and a one-way trip to Virginia Beach would cost you more than $23 in gas.

We ran the numbers with a Ford Focus using regular unleaded, so larger vehicles would cost more.
