Dressing for the Cold Weather

HARRISONBURG, Va. Before you step out the door Tuesday morning, it is important to be prepared. This means wearing several layers of clothing and making sure you are not outside for a long period of time, since frostbite and hypothermia can set in very quickly with these temperatures.

The City of Harrisonburg recommends staying inside during this bitter cold weather; however, if you must go outside, they said it is important to put on several layers of loose-fitting, lightweight clothing, rather than one layer of heavy clothing. It is important for the outer garment to be tightly woven and to limit skin exposure as much as possible to prevent frostbite.

The City of Harrisonburg also recommends bringing your warm clothes with you, especially if you plan to travel. They said it is a good thing to have in case you become stranded.
