FISHERSVILLE, Va -- Alice Roadcap, a breast cancer survivor, is fighting cancer for the second time. Doctors diagnosed her with cancer again this past fall.

“At first, I felt overwhelmed,” Roadcap said. “I was like, I couldn't believe that it happened.”

Roadcap's friend, Kimberly Obaugh, wanted to help her any way she could, so she is crocheting her way to raise money.

“If I could be even just a bit like her when I grow up, I would be truly blessed,” Obaugh said. “She just inspires me to do things and to help out.”

Obaugh started making bonnets to raise money on Wednesday and she already has nearly 100 orders.

“It's overwhelming, but in such a great way. We are truly blessed to be getting the response that we're getting.”

Money goes to Roadcap's family to help with expenses and bills.

“It has just made my heart so warm, and I truly believe the love of my friends and my family are what keeps me going," Roadcap said.

Roadcap will have to drive back and forth to the hospital for the next 4 to 6 weeks for radiation and that costs gas money. That was where people's donations come in.

“It's unreal how it makes you feel to know that you have so many supporters out there,” Roadcap said.

A positive attitude helps Roadcap as she faces radiation. Help also comes from her friend's encouragement, one stitch at a time.

“If you have an attitude that you're just going to give up, you're letting the cancer win. That's what we need to do is to fight it and to show this cancer that we can beat it.”

Roadcap said she wants people to know the importance of taking a mammogram test. That helped detect her first cancer diagnosis in 2005.

Obaugh said she is recruiting people in the Valley to help with so many orders. If you are interested in helping, you can connect with Obaugh through Facebook here: Facebook.com/leesprettythings
