STAUNTON -- One non-profit organization known for helping those in need is taking its mission a step forward. Goodwill is expanding to help people find jobs.
The only Goodwill in the valley offering the service is near the Staunton Mall but that's only the beginning. One person said the career center is a blessing.
Tracy Cross lost his job after working in a factory for 14 years. He said at his age, it's hard to start over.
"I have a feeling it will all work out but it's scary now a days. So many people are out there looking too and it's just really a blessing for somebody to really connect with you and try to help you," said Cross.
He's talking about the Career Connection Center inside Goodwill in Staunton. Bonnie Libassi is a coordinator for the center. She said it offers many services to help find you a job.
"People have really appreciated the fact that it's here for them to use. It's a way that we can give to the community and serve the community," said Libassi.
Another benefit to going to the Career Connection Center in Goodwill besides just filling out a resume or a mock interview, you can also shop for the occasion.
Libassi said the center doesn't cost anything and you don't need an appointment. She says doing this job is rewarding.
"I was able to help them actually find employment and be successful in that employment. I just, it's very satisfying," said Libassi.
Cross said finding the career center was a godsend.
"Things happen sometimes for a reason I believe and I believe this is it," said Cross.
The Staunton location is being used as a pilot program. If it does well the center could expand to other locations. If you're looking for a job and need a little help, you can call the Career Connection Center. The number is 540-885-5099.
