Part of Gov. Bob McDonnell's education plan would bring more teachers to Virginia. He wants the state to partner with the national program, Teach for America. That program sends college grads to teach in low-income schools.
A local principal said it's a good idea. He said it would help staff the schools that need the extra help. Plus, he said it's always good to have teachers with different experiences.
"We enjoy seeing the mix of the younger teachers, the newer teachers and the ideas that they bring in, the current best practice research and the energy that they bring to a building and it always is a nice mix with your veteran teachers," said David Baker, the principal at Hilyard Middle School.
Baker said the program would help Virginia schools because it would train teachers at an earlier age.
