HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- The government shutdown may have an impact on Virginia's governor election

The Republican and Democratic candidates have taken strong stands on this issue, something a political analyst said may hurt one of them.

Terry McAuliffe criticized Ken Cuccinelli siding with extreme Republicans in Congress.

Cuccinelli said in a statement that he is disappointed both parties couldn't reach a deal, but he pointed out Obamacare is part of the problem.

Bob Roberts, a political analyst, said this move may put in jeopardy votes from 175,000 federal employees.

"Between now and November if this drags on and drags on, if they are not getting paid and they lose that money, they will take it out on somebody and they are not taking it on Obamacare because to these federal employees, they already have health care," said Roberts.

He said many federal workers vote for Republican candidates, but this could impact their vote.
