RICHMOND, Va -- On Friday, Gov. Bob McDonnell announced the donation of $25,000 to Share Our Strength's No Kid Hungry campaign, and he encouraged the private sector to support the mission to end childhood hunger. Gov, McDonnell joined the campaign spokesperson Jeff Bridges and Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack to launch the Virginia No Kid Hungry Campaign. The campaign is a national effort focused on ending childhood hunger. Share Our Strength, a national nonprofit, hopes to end childhood hunger in America by connecting children with the nutritious food they need to lead healthy, active lives.
Through its No Kid Hungry campaign, Share Our Strength ensures children in need are enrolled in effective federal nutrition programs, invests in community organizations fighting hunger and teaches families how to cook healthy, affordable meals. Members of the organization want to build public-private partnerships to end childhood hunger, at the state and city level.
Speaking about the donation, Governor McDonnell said, “Childhood hunger in America is not a partisan issue. I applaud Share Our Strength, Jeff Bridges and their corporate partners for their work to make sure children and their families have access to nutritious food every day.”
Share Our Strength is hosting a fundraiser for the No Kid Hungry campaign featuring their national spokesman, award winning actor Jeff Bridges, at the Republican National Convention on Tuesday, August 28 at Splitsville in Tampa, Florida.
