RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Ninety new troopers are joining the Virginia State Police force.
A graduation ceremony for the latest class of troopers is set for Friday morning at Meadow Event Park in Caroline County. It's the second-largest class ever to graduate from the Virginia State Police Academy.
The new troopers began a 34-week training session last Oct. 25. They've received 1,690 hours of classroom and field instruction encompassing more than 100 different subjects, including judicial procedures, juvenile and traffic law, firearms, self-defense, crowd control and first-aid.
On Monday, the new troopers will report to their individual duty assignments across Virginia and begin their final phase of training. Each trooper will spend a minimum of six weeks with a field training officer learning his or her new patrol area and day-to-day duties.
