GROTTOES, Va. -- Hundreds of people take a step 150 years into the past to celebrate Grottoes' Civil War heritage.
Grand Caverns held their annual Heritage Day celebration on June 7.
Civil War exhibits, music, and dancing were just a few of the attractions.
A mobile history museum even put people in the footsteps of the soldiers.
People at the celebration said it's important to keep the history of the area alive.
"It's important to kind of show the community some of the history of the area and really get a hands on view of things," said Jordan Kratzer, who lives in the area, "if you don't understand it, they say you're going to repeat it in the future and you learn so many valuable lessons from the past and history."
Grand Caverns also held a candlelight tour and ballroom dance inside of their cave.
