GROTTOES, VA-- Runners in the valley are tying up their shoe laces on Friday for the Grand Caverns Signature 5k. Several of those in attendance ran in the Boston Marathon earlier this week.
This is the fifth year for the race. The race is to benefit those who can't run themselves. The proceeds from the marathon will go towards the purchase of a wheelchair-accessible outdoor fitness station. We spoke with a few of the runners who also participated in the Boston Marathon this week. They told us the race, and spectators, were welcoming this year.
"I was just privileged to be part of the 36,000 runners that were there this year," said Corinne Makarewick, of Grottoes.
"Boston was an incredible experience, the crowds were just full og energy and enthusiasm, and I think it really assisted all the runners in having a fantastic day and race," said Sean Mcgowen of Harrisonburg.
