HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- Members of the Shenandoah Valley Horsemen’s Association recently presented a contribution of $1,000 to the Mid-Atlantic Burn Camp from proceeds derived from their horse show held last fall.
Members made the presentation at the home of club treasurer, Mary Swecker.
The Shenandoah Valley Horsemen’s Association (SVHA), founded in 1975, is a group open to horse enthusiasts of all breeds and disciplines. Over the years they have continuously hosted multi-breed horse shows locally. In addition, members conduct other activities such as a points program, monthly meetings, and organized trail rides.
This year, they have scheduled their show for Sept. 20, 2014 at the Bridgewater Lawn Party Grounds.
The Mid-Atlantic Burn Camp is held annually at the Brethren Woods Camp and Retreat Center in Keezletown. This camp provides an opportunity for young burn victims to join their peers in activities that engage them physically, psychologically, and socially. This year’s camp will be held Aug. 3-9.
“We are delighted to be able to provide the Burn Camp with this contribution” said Chad Funkhouser, SVHA president. “As one of the few remaining horse organizations that puts on multi-breed shows locally, we make an effort every year to give a large portion of the proceeds back to a worthy community organization.”
