HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- On the 41st anniversary of the Supreme Court's decision to legalize abortion, a local group held a vigil at Court Square Wednesday afternoon.

The Valley Family Forum hosted the vigil to pray for the United States to reject abortion and choose life instead.

With songs and prayer, nearly 20 people took a stand against abortion.

Joe Slater, a pastor at Covenant Presbyterian Church, said this law is unjust and unmerciful.

"I think it's over 50 million babies have been killed since that has been passed and that is a pretty serious deal. We took the holocaust pretty seriously. We should take this pretty seriously," said Slater.

He also said the prayer may also inspire those who attended to take action to end abortion.
