Harrisonburg, Va. (WHSV) The Virginia Industrial Hemp coalition joined together Thursday for a film about the farming legalization of industrial hemp and policy reform.

Organizers of the event are calling for lawmakers to legalize the growing of industrial hemp seeds in the state.

Growing industrial hemp, which comes from the same plant as marijuana is outlawed in many states, but supporters say it is beneficial for their health and would be wise to make it legal to grow.

"We're losing out on jobs, all the above. I mean, it's just we need to change this law. 32 States have already made legislation, pro-hemp legislation. 20 states have already passed it," said Amatucci, who is the Founder of Virginia Industrial Hemp Coalition.

Organizers of Thursday's event plan on proposing a bill in the next general assembly session, pushing for law makers to make it legal to grow industrial hemp seeds.
