HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- A park may be coming to Harrisonburg close to where the city's new municipal building will be built.
Currently, the group behind the park and the Harrisonburg City Council are figuring out how the two plans can be integrated.
Plan Our Park is working on a design for the park.
The location will be in downtown Harrisonburg near the farmer's market.
The Plan Our Park committee said it has come a long way coordinating the two projects in the past weeks, but a letter sent to city council in November shows it hasn't always been easy.
It states a meeting with city staff turned confrontational after group members laid out ideas. The city council said it may have been a misunderstanding.
The design of the new municipal building has parking spaces next to it.
According to a city staff notes from a November meeting, the Plan Our Park committee proposed to replace those parking spaces with a horse shoe drive lane. It also mentioned adding a green space in front of City Hall.
The city council's plan for the new municipal building would reduce the number of parking spaces from 80 to 50. I will also increase green space.
"The hardest part we've had is the fact that we have two different projects with different owners, if you will as well as different design teams, different budgets and different time frames all coexisting in the same location," said Matthew Robertson with Plan Our Park.
Robertson said the group doesn't want to reduce parking spaces and it is working with city staff on where parking can be located.
He said it will be a collaborative effort between the two groups.
The Plan Our Park committee will present a new design to city council Tuesday.
