HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- A local gym is keeping busy Wednesday with new members looking to lose a few extra pounds this new year.

For those who go to the gym often, the new year is a way to keep their commitment strong.

An employee at Gold's Gym said they see a 20 to 50 percent increase in memberships in January.

Peggy Hill may not be new to walking on the treadmill at Gold's, but she said doing it on New Year's Day is a way to start the year off on the right foot.

"It has been an on going New Year's resolution to continue and not stop coming in because it is so easy to get home and say you know I am tired. I just want to stay home and rest," said Hill.

She has been going to the gym for 20 years.
