It is a nine week class that allows community members to hear from each bureau in the department and have hands-on experiences, to see what local officers do on a day-to-day basis.

HARRISONBURG, Va. The Harrisonburg Police Department is accepting applications for the 2014 Citizen's Police Academy.

Officer Rachel C. Hammer said this is a way for the community to get an inside look into how the department works.

It is a nine week class that allows community members to hear from each bureau in the department and have hands-on experiences, to see what local officers do on a day-to-day basis.

The academy will be held every Thursday evening at the Public Safety Building.

Classes will begin in early March and conclude in May.

Applications are due by February 24.
