Harrisonburg -- Harrisonburg Police is reminding bicyclists to mind the rules of the road. Below, is a release from the police department.
The Harrisonburg Police Department reminds bicyclists to follow the rules of the road, especially in downtown Harrisonburg.
According to Harrisonburg City Code (ordinance 13-2-7), it is unlawful to ride a bicycle or skateboard on any sidewalk or pedestrian walkway in the downtown area. This ordinance is in place for the safety of both pedestrians and bicyclists.
This area is enclosed by the following streets:
-West side of Liberty Street, from Bruce to Elizabeth streets
-South side of Bruce Street, from Liberty to Mason streets
-East side of Mason Street, from Bruce to Elizabeth streets
-North side of Elizabeth Street, from Mason to Liberty streets
Officers with the Department will soon begin increasing enforcement of this City ordinance and want to remind bicyclists to ride with traffic and obey all rules of the road, especially downtown.
