Harrisonburg Group to March in Washington, D.C.

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- On Tuesday, thousands of people will gather on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. to participate in the March for Dignity and Respect for Immigrants.

A number of people from the Valley are planning to attend the march. The demonstrators have been preparing for this march for more than a week.

On Saturday, Virginia Organizing held a pilgrimage in remembrance of deported loved ones and those who died crossing the border.

The Harrisonburg event was one of 180 events that occurred around the nation.

The march on Thursday is the culmination of all the nation-wide events that occurred this past week. Those participating say they want to send a message to Congress.

"The group of us going tomorrow really just want to be a part of the bigger picture, not only here in Harrisonburg, but nationwide. We want to show that we are present and we are not going away," said local community organizer Kiersten Rossetto.

Virginia Organizing is hopeful that a bill with a path to citizenship will be passed this year.
