Harrisonburg Company Receives $200,000 Federal Grant

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- Shenandoah Processing, an organic chicken processing plant in downtown Harrisonburg, just received a USDA grant.

The company just hired its 100th employee last week.

Soon they'll be able to hire even more with the added funds from the $200,000 grant.

Which allows Shenandoah Processing to keep the employees they have now as well as hire more in the future as they ramp up production.

One of the owners says this grant is a big help.

"Before, with a brand-new company, It seems like we're wearing a lot of hats because we didn't have the employees to share the task load so right now we're able to hire more employees so each person doesn't have to wear as many hats," said Wayne Billhimer, the co-owner of Shenandoah Processing. "It's very expensive to start a new business and this is very helpful. Its allowing us to keep the employees we do have and hire some new ones as well."

The company opened earlier this year they have already hit many of their goals and hope to continue to grow.
