HARRISONBURG,Va. (WHSV)-- The city council approved closing down two streets in Harrisonburg to help with the development of a grocery store on the north side of town.

The property is located off Mount Clinton Pike, right across the street
from the Rockingham County school building.

The street closings are subject to several conditions between the developers and the landowners nearby.

"I want to tell the staff thank you. There's a lot of moving parts on this one, and a lot of time and effort so I appreciate it, and hopefully this will move forward to conclusion," said Mayor Ted Byrd,.

For the project to move forward the land will have to be rezoned.
The rezoning is on the agenda for the June 11 planning commission meeting.
